Many of us radio operators may claim or believe that we are more prepared for emergencies by having our radios and repeaters and such; but are we actually prepared to use those radios in an effective way to help ourselves and others through an actual emergency? If all other communications were lost tonight due to some event out of our control, would you and your family know how and be able to make communications with each other over the radio? If so, on which radio and which channel? What if that channel is occupied or unavailable? What is the calling/monitoring protocol? This web page is dedicated to the education of the community with regards to 2-way radio use for emergency scenarios.
Below is a map showing many of the simplex contacts that have been made during our regular simplex testing in the general vicinity. Together, they form a simplex network that could be used to relay messages over a greater area than an individual station, in the event of a repeater outage. This map should be printed and saved offline for your records, in order that your family may benefit from our efforts as well.
